♘Name: Nao, Himura

♞Age: 16

♞Date of Birth: August 11th

♘Nationality: Japanese

♞Ethnicity: Japanese

♘Height: 5'4", 165cm

♞Blood Type: AB+

▌S C H O O L  F I L E

♘Ultimate Talent: Ultimate Chess Player

A largely undefeated player across Japan. Nao originally picked up chess because of his intense boredom at home (or so he says. He actually started because of his sister), and the then minor hobby eventually led him to online matches, and soon, national tournaments. Though he is something of a recluse, pressure from his parents and his peers pushed him to tournaments, and he's made quite the name for himself as a result, winning every one he participates in.

♞Dangerousness Level: 1

♘Trial skill: En Passant- Nao is able to pick up on things that are easily overlooked, thanks to his keen sense of detail. He may spot evidence from the crime scene or notice things about bodies that others have missed, and in trial, if there are any minor inconsistencies or things that don't add up, he will pick up on them and point them out... if he's feeling confident, of course.

♞Inventory:
Rubix Cube; this has grown to become something of a comfort item for Nao. It keeps him in the moment, and helps him keep calm and focused when he's stressed out.
A White King; his very first chess piece, and also his favorite. Nao's older sister gave it to him as a gift, and he keeps it with him at all times.
Notebook; sometimes Nao is seen writing in this notebook. What could the contents be? You'd have to kill him to find out.

Likes:
His older sister and brother; they were always supportive of him and guided him through his life. Nao loves and cares about them deeply.
Solitude; Nao has always been one to prefer alone time over social interaction. He's definitely more at ease in an empty room than in a crowded room.
Fantasy manga/novels; you can't be a chess player without being just a little bit nerdy, right? Nao's favorite passing time is getting invested in fictional worlds and characters, especially series' about knights, kings, queens, etc. It helps him stay committed to chess, imagining the chessboard is a battlefield and the chess pieces are actual soldiers with swords, bows, and all that  sweet, sweet fantasy stuff.
Hairpins; he wears four in his hair at all times! He'd feel lost and like a different person if he didn't. What? They're cute. Boys can wear hairpins too~

♞Dislikes:
His parents; they always saw him as a disappointment and were incredibly distant from him until his chess 'career' started. They would always force him to do things he didn't want to do (like going to tournaments, and in turn, making them money), they only see him as a tool and plaything and he knows that. He hates them for this treatment.
Puzzle games; things that are challenging and stimulate the brain are some of Nao's favorite things. Unless those things are puzzles in video games, especially in RPGs. He just can't work out a solution, which leaves him extremely frustrated. He always has to look up guides online to get him through those levels.
His height; how can he be taken seriously when he's so short?! Guys are supposed to be taller, right?! This is just unfair!
Social interaction; other people are hard to understand, and it's not like others would understand him either, so what's the point of trying to be friendly with them anymore? They always have ulterior motives anyways…

Hobbies: Writing; Nao has been into writing since he was young. So much so that his dream job was to become an author! He loves writing up scenarios for stories. Sometimes, if he gets wicked invested in a series, he even writes fanfiction, which he sometimes posts online under an alias. His worst nightmare is having somebody find out that it was him who wrote that fanfiction.

♞Biography: On August 11th, an unwanted child was brought into the world by two corrupt, selfish, irresponsible people. When his parents were young, his mother gave birth to Nao's two older twin siblings while they were in their late teens. They only saw children as toys that they could play with, and then discarded them when they got bored. The twins had it easier than Nao; they were wanted and paid attention to, after all. Nao was "an accident", a mistake. When Nao was born, his parents didn't want him, and only kept him due to the pleas of his siblings. Whether that was a good or bad idea, Nao wasn't sure. Would he have had a better life if he was put up for adoption? That would mean he wouldn't have known his siblings, though, wouldn't it...  He didn't want that.

Nao was very close to his siblings, who basically took on the duty of raising Nao themselves while their parents did whatever they wanted. A set of twins, Homura and Yukio, 10 years older than him. For such a young age, they were awfully responsible and knew how to do things that most children their age wouldn't. Due to their parents neglect, they had no choice but to grow up faster than other children. It was the same for Nao, who forced himself to become more responsible so he wouldn't be a burden to his siblings. As a result, Nao grew up into a detached, bitter person. He had no interest in the outside world and preferred to stay in the presence of his siblings, or alone in his room. He didn't seek out friendships, and pushed away anyone who tried to befriend him.

However, he was still a child, and his sister knew that. He didn't have any hobbies, friends, or interests (as far as they knew). He either laid in bed reading manga until he fell asleep, or sat on his computer (also probably reading manga). Homura wanted to get him invested in something. Their family wasn't that well off, and Homura's allowance was terribly small, so she couldn't afford to get something big, which led her to buy him his first chess piece. A white Knight. And with every allowance she received, she'd buy another chess piece, and then another, and another, until Nao had a complete set. He didn't have a proper chessboard for a while, so whenever they would play, they would make their own with a few pieces of paper. The three siblings would all play against each other daily. They'd alternate turns, all going up against each other, but somehow, even though he was ten years their junior, Nao would always win.

Eventually, that lighthearted passing time grew into a hobby. Chess was fun, Nao had figured, and he was good at it; a natural talent, if you will. Whenever his siblings would be busy, Nao would play online matches with random people, easily defeating his opponents. Over time, Nao's parents caught wind of Nao's chess hobby and his success in online matches. They used this knowledge to their advantage, forcing him to sign up for live tournaments, both local and nationwide. He would come in first place in those, too, making his parents money with every tournament won.

With all the showcasing of Nao's talent, it would have been strange if they hadn't appeared when they did. On a cold, rainy morning during his 16th year of life, there was a knock on the family's front door. Two strange men appeared, claiming to represent a school called "Future's Road Academy". They stated that they were there to invite Nao to their school, and making it very clear that there was no such thing as a declination. Nao, both scared and in shock, was granted a day to 'think over' their offer. Nao didn't understand why they would want somebody like him at their prestigious academy. He wasn't anything special, he just liked to play chess... After the encounter with the agents, Homura and Yukio had to explain everything. His whole life, Nao had gone without any knowledge of The Tragedy. The riots, the death, the destruction, nothing. His parents were actually alive, albeit children, when it happened. Upon hearing this, Nao wondered if the reason why his parents were so messed up was because they experienced this event firsthand, at such a young age too. All of this was a lot to take in, especially the part about him and his talent potentially being dangerous. What, was he going to kill everyone by chucking chess pieces and boards at them? It made no sense to him.

Even if it didn't make sense, it's not like he could say no. He had no choice but to say yes when they returned the next morning.  His parents happily agreed with no hesitation to send him off, while his siblings helped him pack up some things to take with him. He said goodbye to the only two people in the world who loved him that day, heading off to the middle of nowhere for schooling.

Extras:

  • Voice Claim: Natsuki Hanae (youtu.be/gGzn0DCfRZM?t=1m6s)

  • His hair is a very light shade of lavender, not white!

  • Writes fanfiction.

  • Has a pretty good sense of detail.

  • He isn’t good with people at all. He usually comes off as extremely rude and snarky.

  • Surprisingly, he isn’t super intelligent. He only did slightly better than average in regular schooling.

  • Can speak english pretty well, but still has trouble pronouncing certain things.

  • That being said, he’ll probably have a hard time saying your name if it isn’t a japanese one, and may end up giving you a nickname.

  • He feels more at ease around older sibling types.

▌R P

Timezone: USA, EST (UTC-5:00)

Availability: it depends on my sleep schedule;;; right now i’m waking up at 6-8 AM and going to sleep at 7-8 PM, but my sleep patterns get messed up very easily. i very well may end up back to sleeping until/waking up at 1-4 PM and going to bed at 4-6 AM soon. it’s pretty unpredictable. but! i’m more than usually online during one of those time spans and will respond as soon as i can. i’m a uh. very slow writer, so please bear with me,,

RP Preferences: lit and dialogue is fine! my lit’s might not be so good tho… i’m not too good at writing action

Methods: dA notes, discord, or docs! (dA notes is probably most comfortable for me)

Extra:

  • i like to write my personal responses to things before and after my written parts in parentheses, so feel free to do the same ;w;

  • i have social anxiety so it may take a bit to get comfortable and i may need guidance, but i’ll try my best!

  • ALSO THIS IS IMPORTANT uh. i actually don’t know much about danganronpa. like. i have very minimal knowledge of anything danganronpa related. i only know some things cuz of friends and research i did for this group (i was also on tumblr A Lot back when people started to take notice of the first game, so i learned some basic stuff from the posts i’d see on my dashboard). i based nao’s lack of knowledge of The Tragedy on my own knowledge, so this will be a learning experience for the both of us.
